FTdx-3000, Mac OS, WSJT-X

Hi,
I need some help configuring my FTdx3000, Mac OS, and WSJT-X. I have been successful connecting the FTdx3000 to my Mac and running
MacLogger DX via USB….but no luck yet with WSJT-X.
If you might share some setting enlist with me that would be great.73, John, W6JTB

Greetings John,
I cannot give you specific settings but I can share some general insight. I returned to being a Windows user to be able to run some specific software packages and to have better control over my com port usage, so it has been a while since I ran any Mac OS software. When I was using a Mac for my station computer, it was a MacBook Air laptop.
I would get things (FTdx-3000, my logging program - Aether Log, and WSJT-x) running smoothly on my MacBook Air. All was right in the world.
Then I would shut every down and re-start a few days later, and things would not be working (communicating). Turning things off and re-starting them would usually / sometimes get things back to working.
Lots of research turned up that my MacBook Air (due to a setting or maybe this is how all Macs work), would not keep a dedicated com port setting / assignment for the various connected devices. When a device was detected it would be assigned a com port to use. When that device was disconnected that com port would be released and would be re-assigned to the next device detected as in service. In other words, each time you connected a 'thing' it may or may not have the same com port assigned to it.
Since software is set to look at a specific com port as assigned in its software settings, it expects to see the FTdx-3000 on com port xx. When the computer has given the FTdx-3000 a different com port number (say yy instead of xx) things do not work.
I found I could look at com port assignments by using Terminal (sorry I do not remember the details). I could see what was happening (com port number assignment changing) but I never came up with a solution for getting the MacBook to assign and reserve the same com port for the FTdx-3000 every time it was turned on. Maybe someone who is more Mac or Linux literate will be along to share a solution.
Hope you get it figured out.
Take care,
W4HRL

Greetings again -
I do have some specifics to share regarding WSJT-x and the FTdx-3000 for running FT8.
One of the things that become clear as I researched the various groups and Youtube was that are several ways to approach the project depending on how a particular person wants their system to perform. There were various postings that said 'You have to do .... (fill in the blank).' And then I found that that did not work for me. What became clear is that you have to look at a person's OVERALL set up, not what a particular menu item says. Depending on that person's approach, his menu item may be entirely wrong for the next guy who may have some things set differently.
So with that in mind, here is what I have found works for me for FT-8 / WSJT-x / FTdx-3000. Some of this I guess you have already achieved but I put the whole process here for those that make find this thread down the road when looking for their solution.
First, I use Windows 10, but have also done this same setup on a Mac computer.
Secondly, you need to install the appropriate drivers for the FTdx-3000.
Then in WSJT-x, my radio setup is DEFAULT for DATA BITS, STOP BITS, and HANDSHAKE. DTR & RTS are allowed to float (i.e set to neither HIGH nor LOW).
BAUD RATE (CAT RATE, menu #38) needs to match in your software and what the FTdx-3000 is set to. (I use 38,400.)
I use CAT for PTT, DATA/PKT for MODE, and FAKE IT for SPLIT.
On to the radio. The menu items on the FTdx-3000 that I have determined to effect FT-8 are:
#67 - DATA MODE - set to OTHERS
#69 - OTHER DISP (SSB) - set to 1500. Gives more of the FT-8 waterfall on the left-hand side.
#70 - OTHER SHIFT (SSB) - set to 1500. Gives more of the FT-8 waterfall on the right-hand side.
#75 - DATA IN SELECT - set to USB
#77 - DATA OUT LEVEL - set to 3 (your best level may differ)
Any menu item not mentioned remains at the default setting.
Also, the setting of the FTdx-3000 BAND WIDTH will affect the waterfall. I keep it set to max.
Hopefully, some of this helps you get started.

I have followed all notes from Mike W4HTL setting up my 3000 and WSJT-X version 2.1.2 and I do receive all stations on 7074>#1592

Have you installed the USB drivers from the Yaesu website (you must use these drivers) when connecting the FTdx3000 to any PC, and have you selected the correct one of the ports that the Yaesu driver installs?

Phil I installed a driver from Yaes website that allowed me to exchange audio in and out between the 3000 and my laptop but the WJST still will not work in Tx.

Have you gone into Windows Device Manger and set up the COM port speed?

Hi John,
I sent you an email last week giving some details connecting WSJT-X to a Mac. I found that K0PIR has some great you tube videos regarding WSJT-X and MacLogger DX. I was able to get WSJT-X working by installing the latest Silicon Labs driver for the Mac, making the proper adjusters to the MIDI setup in the Utilities folder and pointing to the correct serial bus port. If you would like contact me and we can connect outside this forum using Teamviewer and I can walk you through my settings and verify your settings. Let me know what you would like to do.

Bob,
Good morning sir. Sorry I didn’t see your earlier message but with the help of Rob Wagner, VK3BVW, Mike, W4HRL and Don Agro,VE3VRW,
I’ve completed basic settings and logged a few contacts.
I have not however made any changes to MIDI settings so don’t know about that?
This week I hope to fine tune and should I need help I will certainly reach out... very kind and generous offer which is appreciated!
And yes I’ve watched a ton of videos which range from helpful to dated as firmware upgrades over time.
And just an aside for those of you running the Mac OS and not running MacLoggerDX what an amazing logging program that is, and tech support
